Our Roots
A Club with a Lasting History
In 1955, a group of women in Pocatello founded the Idaho Gutter Gussie Club with a simple idea: make bowling fun and celebrate achievement. The original requirements were a 225 game or a 550 series, along with a $10 lifetime membership fee.
Two years later, the club partnered with the Idaho State Women's Association to host its first tournament. That inaugural event in 1957 brought together 150 participants, beginning a tradition that would connect women bowlers throughout Idaho.
As the club grew, Emma Smith of Pocatello sought advice from the Women's International Bowling Congress on keeping the organization going. Despite early doubts about the high qualifying scores, the club continued to flourish.
